This report investigates how practitioners who are part of multidisciplinary teams experience cases of online child sexual violence.
This report aims to understand attitudes and knowledge of online child sexual violence among professionals working in multidisciplinary teams, by addressing the following questions1:
- How do practitioners’ experience managing cases of online child sexual violence differ from handling other cases of sexual violence?
- How do practitioners experience multidisciplinary cooperation in these cases?
- How prepared do practitioners feel to meet victims of online sexual violence and their caregivers?
- What resources do practitioners use?
- What resources would they like to see developed?
The results and key messages of this report may support professionals, policy makers, service coordinators and researchers to develop activities and action on:
- central challenges professionals face, such as the lack of reliable data, which makes it difficult to design effective support tools for online cases.
- inclusion of child victims of online sexual abuse in Barnahus and specialised police support, to ensure equal treatment for all victims.
- addressing how online and offline sexual abuse cases often overlap, and stresses that how a case is classified should not affect the level of care a child receives.
- addressing the urgent need for better guidelines, tools and resources tailored to online child sexual abuse cases within the Barnahus framework.
