Putting children’s rights and procedural safeguards at the heart of Barnahus practice

Topics covered

Depending on your exact needs, this course can be given as a one-off or as part of a custom training package, and could cover topics such as:

  • The rights of child victims of violence.
  • Key safeguards under EU law.
  • The importance of – and guidance to – integrated child protection systems and child friendly justice.
  • What a child rights based approach implies for the design of Barnahus and for individual practitioners.
  • The legal provisions which shape Barnahus practice.
  • How these laws influence practice, so practitioners learn to spot issues that are influenced by the law.
  • How to fulfil the rights of child victims of violence in day to day practice in the Barnahus.
  • How the law affects specific aspects of practice, for example, providing information to and hearing the views of the child on the process, individual assessments, protection from secondary traumatisation, support and assistance for the child.
  • How particular procedural safeguards are fulfilled through specific practices in Barnahus. For example, in investigative interviews:
    • providing information to and hearing the views of the child on the process,
    • conducting, contributing to or using individual assessments,
    • protection from secondary traumatisation,
    • support and assistance for the child.
