Presenting a summary of media mentions of Barnahus from the past few months:

Slovenia

The draft law on Barnahus for the Republic of Slovenia was put to public consultation in summer 2020, and is available in English. See this press release for good background to the bill. The draft law was prepared with the help of the Joint EU Structural Reform Support (DG REFORM) – Council of Europe project, on supporting the implementation of Barnahus in Slovenia – Phase II (2019-2021). Sweden and the UAE

Barnahus Stockholm has met with representatives from the United Arab Emirates about their plans to open Barnahus. Called “Kanaf”, the plan was formulated following a visit by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi to the Barnahus Stockholm centre in 2016, followed by a second visit by a team of officials from child protection organisations in Sharjah in 2018 to evaluate the core elements and format of the Nordic model.

Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland has developed an Implementation Plan to deliver improvements identified in a recent review of Law and Procedures in Serious Sexual Offences. The plan references the establishment of Barnahus and is widely welcomed.

Ukraine

A pilot Barnahus is being established in Ukraine with support from UNICEF. A working group has been established, and the prosecutor’s office is supporting the work.

Germany

HRH Queen Silvia in the news about her support of Childhood Hauses in Germany, first in Leipzig and then Heidelberg. The next location will open in Berlin 24 September 2020 and will be housed in the University Hospital’s premises. Düsseldorf will also open very soon.

Albania

Child Rights Center Albania has changed their English name to Barnahus Albania.
